Military

Many fine conditioning programs exist for military preparation, but layering strength and power on top of movement dysfunction is a recipe for unnecessary injury.   You can put all the horses you want under the hood of a car, but if the car’s alignment is poor, a breakdown is not a matter of “if” but “when.”  Functional movement dysfunction goes beyond the presence or absence of injury.

A chasm of preparation exists between the medical clearance process and the physical conditioning process in military and law enforcement.  Medical only cares about whether you are free of injury or disease and show no traditional markers of enhanced risk.  Physical conditioning entails just that: physical conditioning.  Intense functional training is fantastic if you exhibit a high level of movement authenticity but can be counterproductive if your body relies on movement compensations to handle the loads imposed upon it. Physical conditioning to maximize capacity is only part of the equation. Many injured recruits or candidates will blame injuries on bad luck, poor conditioning, or overtraining when the true cause was often an undetected movement dysfunction.
